Being a professional

One of the hallmarks of being considered a "professional" is to continue to learn throughout a career. The professions now represent something like 20% of the workforce - more if managers are considered -and most are employed in large companies or the public sector. They range from the long established to those still establishing a professional status.

What is continuing professional education/development?

	Continuing professional education/development is different from personal development, staff development or in-service education and training. Broadly speaking, continuing professional education encompasses all formal and informal learning that allows individuals to improve their own practice.
	Professional development is an aspect of personal development and the two should interact where that is possible. The former is mainly about occupational role development whereas personal development is the development of the person, often the 'whole' person, and almost always involves changes in self awareness.
	HEADS TOGETHER can assist in the development of structures and procedures to co-ordinate developmental opportunities so as to promote a commitment on the part of the individual to professional growth and to help staff develop and improve their workplace performance.
